Clearing space

quote

As I was scrolling through my facebook feed, this quote shouted out to me. In. My. Face. Yea, so I do have a bit of a clutter problem. Fine, a little more than a bit. Every single thing at home is tied to a memory, or a story. To me, spring cleaning is simply organising the clutter nicely. #outofsightoutofmind Beginning of this year, I’ve forced myself to discard one item a month. My guide is – If I haven’t used it for a year, I would not need it for another year. Slow small steps.

Then this quote hit me in the face. Maybe it’s time to dream about the person I want to become. And then make space in the house for the person to come into. Keeping things, holding onto the past, will only be a result of same old, same old. I’ve 6 more months to my next Chinese New Year Spring cleaning. So yes, I’m going to do something different from today 6/6/2017. Hope you will see a brand new me on 6/1/2018!!

I shared the above quote and text on my Facebook and it generated quite a bit of discussion. I was humbled to realise that many women struggle with issues like – hoarding, keeping the home tidy, clearing spaces at home etc. The act of decluttering, throwing away items, packing things neatly is not as simple as Marie Kondo made it to be. I love her message and her philosophy. I do believe she is doing something great. But when I stare at my own clutter, I am stuck.

The clutter you see is a reflection of what’s inside.

I’m embarrassed to show you this, but yea, this is the state of my working desk.
Clearingspace

My horrible work space right now

And I really don’t like it. I don’t even want to work in this space!

But when it comes to organising, my mind always draws a blank. To pack this area would take me about 3 – 4 hours and I would feel that my life could be used in doing other things with those hours.

I know the joy I would experience every single time I transform the area. I know my heart would feel lighter and the my mind clearer. Butttttt… Arghh! I just need to get passed the initial resistance.

What physical and emotional space are you residing in right now? Who do you want to become? What does your space need to look like for the new you? Let’s do this together~

In order to transform to the new person whom I want to become, I must get the place ready and make the space welcoming. For that, I will do it, and I must do it.
